About Us Woodlawn Duckpin Bowling Center is located at 240 Platt Avenue West Haven , CT. just of I-95 exit I-95 South Exit 42 Take right at end of ramp, At 7th light take a right onto Rte 162 (West Main) go 7/10th of a mile at Mobil Gas Station bear left onto Platt Ave. Woodlawn on the right. I-95 North Exit 41, take right off exit follow 1 1/2 miles to end. Take left onto Jones Hill Road 1 1/2 miles on right CVS Plaza, Woodlawn around back of building
Woodlawn Duckpin Bowling Center first opened on Platt Ave. in West Haven, Connecticut in the spring of 1954. It was one of the first duckpin lanes in America to open its doors with 12 Sherman Automatic Pinsetter bowling machine and lanes. This was the time of the famous White City of Savin Rock and many families would include a stop at the Woodlawn after riding the Roller Coaster or Flying Horses. New owner Bob Nugent purchased the lanes in May 2004 after a long career in the retail oil business. As a youngster Bob spent many afternoons at the Woodlawn before moving out of town. Bob enjoys talking with and meeting new people and loves children, therefore Bob felt the Woodlawn is the right business venture. Bob immediately initiated a complete renovation of the well worn and much loved bowling center. Upgrading the facilities ( making them handicapable) , rebuilding the 'Snack Bar', new flooring, lighting , paint and furniture, bringing a new spark to the Woodlawn. (work in progress) |
